And on the ninth day of the fourth month the famine prevailed in the city, and there was no bread for the people of the land.

And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver.

Moreover he called for a famine on the land: he broke the whole staff of bread.

You have showed your people hard things: you have made us to drink the wine of astonishment.

For, behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, does take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water.

Son of man, when the land sins against me by trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out my hand on it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine on it, and will cut off man and beast from it:

Then he said to me, See, I have given you cow's dung for man's dung, and you shall prepare your bread therewith.

When I shall send on them the evil arrows of famine, which shall be for their destruction, and which I will send to destroy you: and I will increase the famine on you, and will break your staff of bread:

And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and you shall eat, and not be satisfied.

So two or three cities wandered to one city, to drink water; but they were not satisfied: yet have you not returned to me, said the LORD.

And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and see a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
