When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.

Who are Israelites; to whom pertains the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;

To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,

They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.

But now, O LORD, you are our father; we are the clay, and you our potter; and we all are the work of your hand.

Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

And will be a Father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, said the Lord Almighty.

And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

Go in, speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land.

And you shall say to him, The LORD God of the Hebrews has sent me to you, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness: and, behold, till now you would not hear.

Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.

Do you thus requite the LORD, O foolish people and unwise? is not he your father that has bought you? has he not made you, and established you?

Is Israel a servant? is he a home born slave? why is he spoiled?

A son honors his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is my honor? and if I be a master, where is my fear? said the LORD of hosts to you, O priests, that despise my name. And you say, Wherein have we despised your name?
