And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in mortar, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigor.

As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.

Therefore thus said the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwell in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite you with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against you, after the manner of Egypt.

He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hinders.

But I will put it into the hand of them that afflict you; which have said to your soul, Bow down, that we may go over: and you have laid your body as the ground, and as the street, to them that went over.

Now therefore, what have I here, said the LORD, that my people is taken away for nothing? they that rule over them make them to howl, said the LORD; and my name continually every day is blasphemed.

Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke?

You shall not rule over him with rigor; but shall fear your God.

And you shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your slaves for ever: but over your brothers the children of Israel, you shall not rule one over another with rigor.

And as a yearly hired servant shall he be with him: and the other shall not rule with rigor over him in your sight.

Who also eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them; and they break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron.

Draw you waters for the siege, fortify your strong holds: go into clay, and tread the mortar, make strong the brick kiln.

How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelled in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians vexed us, and our fathers:

The same dealt subtly with our kindred, and evil entreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live.

I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send you into Egypt.

And the Egyptians evil entreated us, and afflicted us, and laid on us hard bondage:

But the LORD has taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt, to be to him a people of inheritance, as you are this day.

And she said to them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.
