Deuteronomy 9:19

For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, with which the LORD was wroth against you to destroy you. But the LORD listened to me at that time also.

Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.

When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:

Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among them that call on his name; they called on the LORD, and he answered them.

And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do to his people.

And the LORD said to Moses, I will do this thing also that you have spoken: for you have found grace in my sight, and I know you by name.

And he said, Behold, I make a covenant: before all your people I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation: and all the people among which you are shall see the work of the LORD: for it is a terrible thing that I will do with you.

And the people cried to Moses; and when Moses prayed to the LORD, the fire was quenched.

And I stayed in the mount, according to the first time, forty days and forty nights; and the LORD listened to me at that time also, and the LORD would not destroy you.

And then the LORD's wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest you perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD gives you.

And the LORD was very angry with Aaron to have destroyed him: and I prayed for Aaron also the same time.

Also in Horeb you provoked the LORD to wrath, so that the LORD was angry with you to have destroyed you.

And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)
