The sword without, and terror within, shall destroy both the young man and the virgin, the suckling also with the man of gray hairs.

For death is come up into our windows, and is entered into our palaces, to cut off the children from without, and the young men from the streets.

Behold, O LORD; for I am in distress: my bowels are troubled; my heart is turned within me; for I have grievously rebelled: abroad the sword bereaves, at home there is as death.

The tongue of the sucking child sticks to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread, and no man breaks it to them.

The sword is without, and the pestilence and the famine within: he that is in the field shall die with the sword; and he that is in the city, famine and pestilence shall devour him.

And the sword shall abide on his cities, and shall consume his branches, and devour them, because of their own counsels.

Though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them, that there shall not be a man left: yes, woe also to them when I depart from them!

Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yes, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb.

And I will bring a sword on you, that shall avenge the quarrel of my covenant: and when you are gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.

You shall eat, but not be satisfied; and your casting down shall be in the middle of you; and you shall take hold, but shall not deliver; and that which you deliver will I give up to the sword.

For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fights, within were fears.
