This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the most High, which is come on my lord the king:

This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed to him by God.

He pours contempt on princes, and causes them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.

He has also established them for ever and ever: he has made a decree which shall not pass.

I will declare the decree: the LORD has said to me, You are my Son; this day have I begotten you.

By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upheld by mercy.

The LORD of hosts has purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honorable of the earth.

This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomsoever he will, and sets up over it the basest of men.

Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonished for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spoke, and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation thereof, trouble you. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream be to them that hate you, and the interpretation thereof to your enemies.

I thought it good to show the signs and wonders that the high God has worked toward me.
