But seek not Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beersheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nothing.

Why he called that place Beersheba; because there they swore both of them.

And Abraham planted a grove in Beersheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the everlasting God.

And he went up from there to Beersheba.

And he called it Shebah: therefore the name of the city is Beersheba to this day.

Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said to them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold your gods, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

And he set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan.

And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beersheba, and broke down the high places of the gates that were in the entering in of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man's left hand at the gate of the city.

They that hate you shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nothing.

The LORD brings the counsel of the heathen to nothing: he makes the devices of the people of none effect.

For the terrible one is brought to nothing, and the scorner is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off:

Take counsel together, and it shall come to nothing; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.

And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel their confidence.

The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.

Is there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yes, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.

Though you, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and come not you to Gilgal, neither go you up to Bethaven, nor swear, The LORD lives.

All their wickedness is in Gilgal: for there I hated them: for the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of my house, I will love them no more: all their princes are rebels.

I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holds the scepter from the house of Eden: and the people of Syria shall go into captivity to Kir, said the LORD.

That in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel on him I will also visit the altars of Bethel: and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground.

Come to Bethel, and transgress; at Gilgal multiply transgression; and bring your sacrifices every morning, and your tithes after three years:

Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos has conspired against you in the middle of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.

But prophesy not again any more at Bethel: for it is the king's chapel, and it is the king's court.

Therefore thus said the LORD; Your wife shall be an harlot in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be divided by line; and you shall die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.

And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Your god, O Dan, lives; and, The manner of Beersheba lives; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

And base things of the world, and things which are despised, has God chosen, yes, and things which are not, to bring to nothing things that are:

However, we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nothing:

You shall beget sons and daughters, but you shall not enjoy them; for they shall go into captivity.

And the LORD said to Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Why the name of the place is called Gilgal to this day.

For in one hour so great riches is come to nothing. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,

Then said Samuel to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.

And he went from year to year in circuit to Bethel, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and judged Israel in all those places.

Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beersheba.
