Why the Lord said, For as much as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honor me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

That we from now on be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

And if any man obey not our word by this letter, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.

Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw yourselves from every brother that walks disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.

But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise yourself rather to godliness.

For bodily exercise profits little: but godliness is profitable to all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw yourself.

But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase to more ungodliness.

But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do engender strifes.

They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and to every good work reprobate.

A man that is an heretic after the first and second admonition reject;
