Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that you sorrowed to repentance: for you were made sorry after a godly manner, that you might receive damage by us in nothing.

For I will declare my iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.

And I will pour on the house of David, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look on me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:

Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repents.

It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this your brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.

I say to you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repents, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.

To the one we are the smell of death to death; and to the other the smell of life to life. And who is sufficient for these things?

For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same letter has made you sorry, though it were but for a season.
