But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the LORD's oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.

A man that has friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.

And Saul spoke to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David.

That all of you have conspired against me, and there is none that shows me that my son has made a league with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you that is sorry for me, or shows to me that my son has stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?

And they two made a covenant before the LORD: and David stayed in the wood, and Jonathan went to his house.
