For even hereunto were you called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow his steps:

He that said he stays in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

Then said Jesus to his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.

These things I have spoken to you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives to the death.

For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

Yes, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.

That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto.

Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach to you, is Christ.

For I will show him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.

Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?

But rejoice, inasmuch as you are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, you may be glad also with exceeding joy.
