Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in distress. My eye wastes away with grief, [yea], my soul and my body.

My eye wastes away because of grief. It grows old because of all my adversaries.

My eye wastes away because of affliction. I have called daily upon thee, O LORD, I have spread forth my hands to thee.

My flesh and my heart fails, [but] God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

For this our heart is faint. For these things our eyes are dim,

Our eyes do yet fail [in looking] for our vain help. In our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save.

[even] those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron,

for all the day long I have been plagued, and chastened every morning.

which my lips uttered, and my mouth spoke, when I was in distress.

For our soul is bowed down to the dust; our body clings to the ground.

My eye also is dim because of sorrow, and all my members are as a shadow.

He brought me forth also into a large place. He delivered me, because he delighted in me.

LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness. According to the cleanness of my hands he has recompensed me.

I will pursue my enemies, and overtake them. Neither will I turn again till they are consumed.
