Psalm 143:3

A Conservative Version

For the enemy has persecuted my soul. He has smitten my life down to the ground. He has made me to dwell in dark places as those who have been long dead.

Attend to my cry, for I am brought very low. Deliver me from my persecutors, for they are stronger than I.

Let them be put to shame and brought to dishonor who seek after my soul. Let them be turned back and confounded who devise my hurt.

let the enemy pursue my soul, and overtake it. Yea, let him tread my life down to the earth, and lay my glory in the dust. Selah.

And Joab said to the man who told him, and, behold, thou saw it, and why did thou not smite him there to the ground? And I would have given thee ten [pieces of] silver, and a belt.

And Abner said again to Asahel, Turn thee aside from following me. Why should I smite thee to the ground? How then would I hold up my face to Joab thy brother?

For strangers are risen up against me, and violent men have sought after my soul. They have not set God before them. Selah.

Arise, O LORD, in thine anger. Lift up thyself against the rage of my adversaries, and awake for me the justice thou have commanded.

Rejoice not against me, O my enemy. When I fall, I shall arise. When I sit in darkness, LORD will be a light to me.
