Psalm 12:5

A Conservative Version

Because of the oppression of the poor, because of the sighing of the needy, now I will arise, says LORD. I will set him in the safety he gasps for.

This poor man cried, and LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

He who oppresses a poor man reproaches his maker, but he who has mercy on a needy man honors him.

Behold the wage of the workmen who reaped your fields. The man who was defrauded by you cries out. And the outcries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of Lord of hosts.

Now I will arise, says LORD. Now I will lift up myself. Now I will be exalted.

But he saves from the sword of their mouth, even the needy from the hand of the mighty.

Arise, O LORD, O God, lift up thy hand. Do not forget the poor.

Thou shall be hid from the scourge of the tongue. Neither shall thou be afraid of destruction when it comes.

And it shall be for a sign and for a witness to LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt. For they shall cry to LORD because of oppressors, and he will send them a savior, and a defender, and he will deliver them.

As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, robbed his brother, and did that which is not good among his people, behold, he shall die in his iniquity.

If thou see the oppression of a poor man, and the violent wresting of justice and righteousness in a province, marvel not at the matter. For [a man] higher than the high is observing, and there are higher [men] than they.

Then I returned and saw all the oppressions that are done under the sun. And, behold, the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter. And on the side of their oppressors there was power, but they had no comforter.

to judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that man who is of the earth may no more be appalling.

His ways are profane at all times. Thy judgments are far above out of his sight. As for all his adversaries, he puffs at them.

O how great is thy goodness, which thou have laid up for those who fear thee, which thou have wrought for those who take refuge in thee before the sons of men!

They scoff, and in wickedness utter oppression. They speak loftily.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it shall eat the fruit of it.

They return, but not to [him] on high. They are like a deceitful bow. Their rulers shall fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue. This shall be their derision in the land of Egypt.
