My heart is smitten like grass, and withered, for I forget to eat my bread.

The grass withers, the flower fades, because the breath of LORD blows upon it. Surely the people is grass.

For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

My soul is weary of my life. I will give free reign to my complaint. I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison of which my spirit drinks up. The terrors of God set themselves in array against me.

And the elders of his house arose, [and stood] beside him, to raise him up from the ground, but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.

My skin is black, [and falls] from me. And my bones are burned with heat.
