Numbers 23:19

A Conservative Version

God is not a man, that he should lie, neither the son of man, that he should repent. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not make it good?

And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent, for he is not a man that he should repent.

Every good gift and every perfect endowment is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation nor shadow of turning.

For I, LORD, do not change. Therefore ye, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.

So that by two immutable events, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have strong encouragement, having fled for refuge to seize the hope being openly displayed.

For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

But it is not as that the word of God has failed. For all those from Israel, these are not Israel,

If we are unfaithful, that man remains faithful. He cannot renounce himself.

but he with an oath, because of him who says to him, The Lord swore and will not change his mind, Thou are a priest into the age according to the order of Melchizedek.

Or think ye that the scripture says vainly, The spirit that he caused to dwell in us yearns with jealousy?

And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee wherever thou go, and will bring thee again into this land. For I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.

I, LORD, have spoken, surely I will do this to all this evil congregation that are gathered together against me. In this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear. Hearken to me, thou son of Zippor.

I will not break my covenant, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.

LORD has sworn, and will not repent. Thou are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

And the residue of the number of the archers, the mighty men of the sons of Kedar, shall be few. For LORD, the God of Israel, has spoken it.

Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words, but will arise against the house of the evil-doers, and against the help of those who work iniquity.

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God shall stand forever.

calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man of my counsel from a far country. Yea, I have spoken. I will also bring it to pass. I have purposed. I will also do it.

so shall my word be that goes forth out of my mouth. It shall not return to me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please. And it shall prosper in the thing to which I sent it.

For this the earth shall mourn, and the heavens above be black, because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and I have not relented, nor will I turn back from it.

All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.

Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee. For to thee, and to thy seed, I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham thy father.

There failed not anything of any good thing which LORD had spoken to the house of Israel; all came to pass.

In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from the beginning even to the end.

He who dies of Jeroboam in the city shall the dogs eat, and he who dies in the field shall the birds of the heavens eat, for LORD has spoken it.

Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if LORD should make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shall see it with thine eyes, but shall not eat of it.

This was the word of LORD which he spoke to Jehu, saying, Thy sons to the fourth generation shall sit upon the throne of Israel. And so it came to pass.

Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah.

LORD has sworn to David in truth. He will not turn from it: From the fruit of thy body I will set upon thy throne.
