For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison of which my spirit drinks up. The terrors of God set themselves in array against me.

For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presses me severely.

Terrors are turned upon me. They chase my honor as the wind, and my welfare is passed away as a cloud.

The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity, but a broken spirit who can bear?

Make haste to answer me, O LORD, my spirit fails. Hide not thy face from me, lest I become like those who go down into the pit.

And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a great voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why have thou forsaken me?

For he breaks me with a tempest, and multiplies my wounds without cause.

Having seen therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men. But we have been manifested to God, and I hope also to have been manifested in your consciences.

Thine arrows are sharp. The peoples fall under thee. [They are] in the heart of the king's enemies.

For thou will make them turn their back. Thou will make ready with thy bowstrings against their face.

And he sent out his arrows, and scattered them, Yea, lightnings manifold, and discomfited them.

He has also prepared for him the instruments of death. He makes his arrows fiery.

For calamity from God is a terror to me, and I can do nothing because of his majesty.

Let his own eyes see his destruction, and let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh, with the blood of the slain and the captives, from the head of the leaders of the enemy.

And she said to them, Call me not Naomi. Call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.

He shall suck the poison of asps. The viper's tongue shall kill him.

Notwithstanding my right I am [accounted] a liar. My wound is incurable, [though I am] without transgression.

As often as it passes though, it shall take you. For morning by morning it shall pass through, by day and by night. And it shall be nothing but terror to understand the report.

He has bent his bow like an enemy. He has stood with his right hand as an adversary, and has slain all who were pleasant to the eye. He has poured out his wrath like fire in the tent of the daughter of Zion.

If I have sinned, what do I do to thee, O thou watcher of men? Why have thou set me as a mark for thee, so that I am a burden to myself?

He has torn me in his wrath, and persecuted me. He has gnashed upon me with his teeth. My adversary sharpens his eyes upon me.

His troops come on together, and cast up their way against me, and encamp round about my tent.

There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine indignation, nor is there any health in my bones because of my sin.

The heart knows its own bitterness, and a stranger does not intermeddle with its joy.

Surely he turns his hand against me, again and again all the day.
