By long-suffering a ruler is persuaded, and a soft tongue breaks the bone.

A poor man uses entreaties, but a rich man answers roughly.

A soft answer turns away wrath, but a grievous word stirs up anger.

His mouth was smooth as butter, but his heart was war. His words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

Can thou put a rope into his nose, or pierce his jaw through with a hook?

Will he make a covenant with thee, that thou should take him for a servant forever?

Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be my own possession from among all peoples, for all the earth is mine,

The earth is LORD's, and the fullness thereof, the world, and those who dwell therein.

The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, says LORD of hosts.
