Jeremiah 31:20

A Conservative Version

Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he a darling child? For as often as I speak against him, I do earnestly remember him still. Therefore my heart yearns for him. I will surely have mercy upon him, says LORD.

Let the wicked man forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts. And let him return to LORD, and he will have mercy upon him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

For whom LORD loves he reproves, and he whips every son whom he receives (LXX/NT).

Then the woman whose the living child was spoke to the king, for her heart yearned over her son, and she said, Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and by no means kill it. But the other said, It shall be neither mine nor thine.

For LORD will judge his people, and regrets for his servants, when he sees that [their] power is gone, and there is none [remaining], shut up or left at large.

And Joseph made haste, for his heart yearned over his brother, and he sought where to weep. And he entered into his chamber, and wept there.

But it was needful to make merry and be glad, because this thy brother was dead, and became alive again, and was lost, and was found.

Go, and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, says LORD, I will not look in anger upon you, for I am merciful, says LORD. I will not keep [anger] forever.

then I will also cast away the seed of Jacob, and of David my servant, so that I will not take of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will cause their captivity to return, and will have mercy on

Say to them, As I live, says lord LORD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked man, but that the wicked man turn from his way and live. Turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways, for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

And yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them, for I am LORD their God,

And therefore LORD will wait, that he may be gracious to you. And therefore he will be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you. For LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all those who wait for him.

[It is of] LORD's loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassions do not fail.
