Jeremiah 25:34

A Conservative Version

Wail, ye shepherds, and cry. And wallow, ye principal men of the flock. For the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions have fully come, and ye shall fall like a goodly vessel.

O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes. Make thee mourning, as for an only son, a most bitter lamentation. For the destroyer shall suddenly come upon us.

Inasmuch therefore as ye trample upon the poor, and take exactions of wheat from him. Ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them. Ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink the wine thereof.

And also their gods, with their molten images, [and] with their goodly vessels of silver and of gold, he shall carry captive into Egypt, and he shall refrain from the king of the north some years.

Therefore thus says lord LORD to them: Behold, I, even I, will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep.

Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, who dwells in the land of Uz. [Yet] the cup shall pass through to thee also. Thou shall be drunken, and shall make thyself naked.

Kill all her bullocks. Let them go down to the slaughter. Woe to them! For their day has come, the time of their visitation.

Make ye him drunken, for he magnified himself against LORD. And Moab shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision.

And all the nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the time of his own land comes. And then many nations and great kings shall make him their bondman.

A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and the wailing of the principal men of the flock! For LORD lays waste their pasture.

Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all who have the corners [of their hair] cut off,

And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, says LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and I will make it desolate forever.

Is this man Coniah a despised broken vessel? Is he a vessel in which none delights? Why are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into the land which they know not?

But I said, How I will put thee among the sons, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of the nations! And I said, Ye shall call me My Father, and shall not turn away from following me.

The sword of LORD is filled with blood. It is made fat with fatness, with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams, for LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom.

Woe to thee who destroys, and thou were not destroyed, and deal treacherously, and they did not deal treacherously with thee! When thou have ceased to destroy, thou shall be destroyed, and when thou have made an end of dealing trea

And he shall break it as a potter's vessel is broken, breaking it in pieces without sparing, so that there shall not be found among the pieces of it a shard with which to take fire from the hearth, or to dip up water out of the cis

Therefore it shall come to pass, that, when LORD has performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.

Thou shall break them with a rod of iron, thou shall dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

And at the return of the year king Nebuchadnezzar sent, and brought him to Babylon, with the good vessels of the house of LORD, and made Zedekiah his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem.

Ye have lived in luxury on the earth, and were self-indulgent. Ye have nourished your hearts as in a day of slaughter.

And the wild oxen shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls. And their land shall be drunken with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.

Let a cry be heard from their houses when thou shall bring a troop suddenly upon them, for they have dug a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet.

On all the housetops of Moab and in the streets thereof there is lamentation everywhere. For I have broken Moab like a vessel of which none delights, says LORD.

Israel is swallowed up. They are now among the nations as a vessel in which no man delights.

My anger is kindled against the shepherds, and I will punish the he-goats. For LORD of hosts has visited his flock, the house of Judah, and will make them as his goodly horse in the battle.

A voice of the wailing of the shepherds, for their glory is destroyed. A voice of the roaring of young lions, for the pride of the Jordan is laid waste.

Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! says LORD.
