A Conservative Version

In the sweat of thy face thou shall eat bread, till thou return to the ground, for out of it thou were taken. For thou are dust, and to dust thou shall return.

They lie down alike in the dust, and the worm covers them.

And inasmuch as it is reserved to men once to die, and after this, judgment,

Also, thorns and thistles it shall bring forth to thee, and thou shall eat the herb of the field.

How much more those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before the moth!

Man goes forth to his work and to his labor until the evening.

It is vain for you to rise up early, to take rest late, to eat the bread of toil, [for] so he gives sleep to his beloved.

And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years, and he died.

Remember, I beseech thee, that thou have fashioned me as clay. And will thou bring me into dust again?
