Thus says LORD: Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, nor let the mighty man glory in his might. Let not the rich man glory in his riches,

I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous man and the wicked man, for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.

I know that, whatever God does, it shall be forever. Nothing can be put to it, nor anything taken from it. And God has done it that men should fear before him.

Consider the work of God. For who can make that straight, which he has made crooked?

Then I returned and saw all the oppressions that are done under the sun. And, behold, the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter. And on the side of their oppressors there was power, but they had no comforter.

And I turned myself to behold wisdom and madness and folly. For what [can] the man [do] who comes after the king? [Even] that which has been done long ago.

When he gives quietness, who then can condemn? And when he hides his face, who then can behold him? [It is] the same whether to a nation, or to a man,

Then ye shall return and discern between the righteous man and the wicked man, between him who serves God and him who does not serve him.

And [lest] thou say in thy heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth.

And watch. If it goes up by the way of its own border to Beth-shemesh, then he has done to us this great evil, but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that smote us; it was a chance that happened to us.

The stouthearted are made a spoil. They have slept their sleep, and none of the men of might have found their hands.

All things come alike to all. There is one event to the righteous man and to the wicked man, to the good man and to the clean man and to the unclean man, to him who sacrifices and to him who does not sacrifice, as is the good man,

Then he answered and spoke to me, saying, This is the word of LORD to Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says LORD of hosts.

This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one event to all. Yea also, the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that [they go] to the dead.

How can ye say, We are mighty men, and valiant men for the war?
