When goods increase, they are increased who eat them. And what advantage is there to the owner of it, except the beholding [of them] with his eyes?

Because everything in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the arrogance of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Behold, is it not of LORD of hosts that the peoples labor for the fire, and the nations weary themselves for vanity?

Will thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? For it certainly makes itself wings, like an eagle that flies toward heaven.

Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.

As the partridge that sits on [eggs] which she has not laid, so is he who gets riches, and not by right. In the midst of his days they shall leave him, and at his end he shall be a fool.

So I was great, and increased more than all who were before me in Jerusalem. Also my wisdom remained with me.

The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eats little or much, but the fullness of the rich will not allow him to sleep.
