The sojourner who is in the midst of thee shall mount up above thee higher and higher, and thou shall come down lower and lower.

And LORD will make thee the head, and not the tail. And thou shall only be above, and thou shall not be beneath, if thou shall hearken to the commandments of LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do,

But his father and his mother knew not that it was of LORD, for he sought an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines had rule over Israel.

Therefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you, but they shall be [as thorns] in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you.

And Israel was brought very low because of Midian, and the sons of Israel cried to LORD.

Do not remember against us the iniquities of our forefathers. Let thy tender mercies speedily meet us, for we are brought very low.

LORD has done that which he purposed. He has fulfilled his word that he commanded in the days of old. He has thrown down, and has not pitied. And he has caused the enemy to rejoice over thee. He has exalted the horn of thine advers

Her adversaries have become the head. Her enemies prosper. For LORD has afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions. Her young sons have gone into captivity before the adversary.
