Surely in vain I have cleansed my heart, and washed my hands in innocence,

I will wash my hands in innocence, so I will encompass thine altar, O LORD,

only in foods and drinks and various washings: carnal ordinances imposed until a time of reformation.

For though thou wash thee with lye, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, says lord LORD.

Deliver me from blood guiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation. [And] my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean. Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

Who can discern [his] errors? Clear thou me from hidden [faults].

If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands ever so clean,

and they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.

Let it fall upon the head of Joab, and upon all his father's house. And let there not fail from the house of Joab one who has an issue, or who is a leper, or who leans on a staff, or who falls by the sword, or who lacks bread.
