Deuteronomy 17:9

A Conservative Version

And thou shall come to the priests the Levites, and to the judge who shall be in those days, and thou shall inquire. And they shall show thee the sentence of judgment.

And in a controversy they shall stand to judge. They shall judge it according to my ordinances. And they shall keep my laws and my statutes in all my appointed feasts, and they shall hallow my Sabbaths.

For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth. For he is the messenger of LORD of hosts.

Thus says LORD of hosts: Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying,

And the priests the sons of Levi shall come near, for LORD thy God has chosen them to minister to him, and to bless in the name of LORD, and according to their word shall every controversy and every stroke be.

Thus says LORD of hosts: If thou will walk in my ways, and if thou will keep my charge, then thou also shall judge my house, and shall also keep my courts, and I will give thee a place of access among these who stand by.

When they have a matter, they come to me, and I judge between a man and his neighbor. And I make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.

Thou shall make judges and officers for thee in all thy gates, which LORD thy God gives thee, according to thy tribes, and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.

If there be a controversy between men, and they come to judgment, and [they] judge them, then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the iniquitous.

They shall teach Jacob thine ordinances, and Israel thy law. They shall put incense before thee, and whole burnt-offering upon thine altar.

Of the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons were for the outer business over Israel, for officers and judges.

[and] to speak to the priests of the house of LORD of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?
