I regret that I have set up Saul to be king, for he has turned back from following me, and has not performed my commandments. And Samuel was angry, and he cried out to LORD all night.

And he arose, and went into the house. And he poured the oil on his head, and said to him, Thus says LORD, the God of Israel, I have anointed thee king over the people of LORD, even over Israel.

And it came to pass, when the spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took the harp, and played with his hand. So Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.

Therefore pray thou not for this people, nor lift up cry nor prayer for them. Neither make intercession to me, for I will not hear thee.

Behold, I have given him for a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander to the peoples.

And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, and he who arises to rule over the Gentiles (LXX/NT). In him shall the Gentiles hope (LXX/NT), and his resting-place shall be glorious.

Then take the vial of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, Thus says LORD, I have anointed thee king over Israel. Then open the door, and flee, and delay not.

Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house, that my name might be there, but I chose David to be over my people Israel.

So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron. And David made a covenant with them in Hebron before LORD. And they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of LORD by Samuel.
