For, as LORD lives, who saves Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. But there was not a man among all the people who answered him.

And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man, and he said to Nathan, As LORD lives, the man who has done this is worthy to die.

And Saul said, God do so and more also, for thou shall surely die, Jonathan.

And Saul hearkened to the voice of Jonathan. And Saul swore, As LORD lives, he shall not be put to death.

Then he said to all Israel, Be ye on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people said to Saul, Do what seems good to thee.

And the king said to Joab, Behold now, I have done this thing. Go therefore, bring the young man Absalom back.
