Then Ahaziah the son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, Let my servants go with thy servants in the ships. But Jehoshaphat would not.
Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold, but they did not go, for the ships were broken at Ezion-geber.
And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father. And Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.
And after this Jehoshaphat king of Judah joined himself with Ahaziah king of Israel. The same did very wickedly.
And king Solomon made a navy of ships in Ezion-geber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.
And Hiram sent in the navy his servants, shipmen who had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon.
And they came to Ophir, and fetched gold from there, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to king Solomon.
For the king had at sea a navy of Tarshish with the navy of Hiram. Once every three years the navy of Tarshish came, bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.
As we have heard, so we have seen in the city of LORD of hosts, in the city of our God, God will establish it forever. Selah.
