Now when the children of Ammon saw that they had become a stench to David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Arameans of Beth-Rehob and the Arameans of Zobah, 20,000 foot soldiers, and the king of Maacah with 1,000 men, plus 12,000 men from Tob.


When David heard about it, he sent Joab and the whole army—the mighty warriors.


When Joab saw that there was a battle line against him front and rear, he chose of all the best troops of Israel and arrayed them against the Arameans,

The children of Ammon came out and took up battle formation at the city gate, while the kings who had come were by themselves in the field.


So they came to Gedaliah at Mizpah—including Ishmael son of Nethaniah, Johanan and Jonathan sons of Kareah, Seraiah son of Tanhumeth, the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah son of the Maacathite—they and their men.


So they went up and explored the land from the wilderness of Zin as far as Rehob the entrance of Hamath.


then Ebron, Rehob, Hammon and Kanah, up to greater Sidon.


Nor did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Acco or the inhabitants of Zidon, Achlab, Achzib, Helbah, Aphik or Rehob;


Then Jephthah fled from his brothers and lived in the land of Tob. Some worthless fellows joined with Jephthah and went out with him.


When the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah from the land of Tob.
