And it came to be, when Yehoram saw Yĕhu, that he said, “Is there peace, Yĕhu?” But he answered, “What peace, as long as the whorings of your mother Izeḇel and her witchcraft are so many?”


And Yĕhu came to Yizre‛ĕl, and Izeḇel heard of it. And she put paint on her eyes and adorned her head, and looked through a window.


She too lies in wait as for a prey, And increases the treacherous among men.


“Take a lyre, go about the city, you forgotten whore; make sweet playing, sing many songs, so that you might be remembered.”


And when you are ravaged, what would you do? Though you put on crimson, though you adorn yourself with ornaments of gold, though you enlarge your eyes with paint, you beautify yourself in vain. Your lovers despise you, they seek your life.


Likewise, that the women dress themselves becomingly, with decency and sensibleness, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly garments,
