Numbers 27:21 - The Scriptures 2009

21 And he is to stand before El‛azar the priest, who shall inquire before יהוה for him by the right-ruling of the Urim. At his word they go out, and at his word they come in, both he and all the children of Yisra’ĕl with him, all the congregation.

And the governor said to them that they should not eat of the most set-apart gifts until there stood up a priest with the Urim and Tummim.

“For the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and they seek the Torah from his mouth, for he is the messenger of יהוה of hosts.


“who goes out before them and comes in before them, who leads them out and brings them in, so that the congregation of יהוה be not like sheep without a shepherd.


And they stood before Mosheh, and before El‛azar the priest, and before the leaders and all the congregation, by the doorway of the Tent of Appointment, saying,


and shall put some of your esteem upon him, so that all the congregation of the children of Yisra’ĕl obey him.


And Mosheh did as יהוה commanded him, and took Yehoshua and set him before El‛azar the priest and before all the congregation,


Mosheh then brought their case before יהוה.


“יהוה your Elohim Himself is passing over before you. He shall destroy these nations from before you and you possess them. Yehoshua himself is passing over before you, as יהוה has spoken.


And of Lĕwi he said, “Your Tummim and your Urim belong to your lovingly-commited One, Whom you tried at Massah, with Whom you contended at the waters of Meriḇah,


And the men of Yisra’ĕl took some of their food, but they did not ask the mouth of יהוה.


And it came to be, after the death of Yehoshua, that the children of Yisra’ĕl asked יהוה, saying, “Who of us should go up first against the Kena‛anites to fight against them?”


And the children of Yisra’ĕl rose and went up to Bĕyth Ěl to ask of Elohim, and they said, “Who of us go up first to battle against the children of Binyamin?” And יהוה said, “Yehuḏah first.”


And the children of Yisra’ĕl went up and wept before יהוה until evening, and asked of יהוה, saying, “Should I again draw near for battle against the children of my brother Binyamin?” And יהוה said, “Go up against him.”


And it came to be, while Sha’ul talked to the priest, that the noise which was in the camp of the Philistines went on, and became great, so Sha’ul said to the priest, “Withdraw your hand.”


And Dawiḏ knew that Sha’ul was plotting evil against him, and said to Eḇyathar the priest, “Bring the shoulder garment here.”


And Sha’ul inquired of יהוה, but יהוה did not answer him, either by dreams or by Urim or by the prophets.


And Dawiḏ said to Eḇyathar the priest, son of Aḥimeleḵ, “Please bring the shoulder garment here to me.” So Eḇyathar brought the shoulder garment to Dawiḏ.
