And it came to be, at evening time, that Dawiḏ rose up from his bed and walked about on the roof of the sovereign’s house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very good to look at.


And Satan answered יהוה and said, “Skin for skin, and all that a man has he would give for his life!


“What I say to you in the dark, speak in the light. And what you hear in the ear, proclaim on the house-tops.


“then let those who are in Yehuḏah flee to the mountains.


“And let him who is in the field not turn back to get his garments.


“Because of this I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you shall eat or drink, or about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than the food and the body more than the clothing?


“So, whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have spoken in the ear in inner rooms shall be proclaimed on the house-tops.


But having found no way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the house-top and let him down with his bed through the tiles into the midst before יהושע.


And on the next day, as they were on their way and approaching the city, Kĕpha went up on the house-top to pray, about the sixth hour.


“When you build a new house, then you shall make a parapet for your roof, so that you do not bring blood-guilt on your house when one falls from it.


And they came down from the high place into the city, and Shemu’ĕl spoke with Sha’ul on the roof.
