“But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet.


And wishing to kill him, he feared the crowd, because they held him as a prophet.


And the crowds said, “This is יהושע, the prophet from Natsareth of Galil.”


The immersion of Yoḥanan, where did it come from? From heaven or from men? So they reasoned among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He shall say to us, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’


And they answered יהושע and said, “We do not know.” And He said to them, “Neither do I say to you by what authority I do these.


And seeking to lay hands on Him, they feared the crowds, seeing they held Him to be a prophet.


But if we say, ‘From men’ – they feared the people, for all held that Yoḥanan was a prophet indeed.


And they were seeking to seize Him, but feared the crowd, for they knew He had spoken the parable against them. And leaving Him, they went away.


for Herodes feared Yoḥanan, knowing that he was a righteous and set-apart man, and he protected him. And when he heard him, he was much perplexed, yet heard him gladly.


And the chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on Him in the same hour, but they feared the people, for they knew that He had spoken this parable against them.


But if we say, ‘From men,’ all the people shall stone us, for they are persuaded that Yoḥanan was a prophet.


And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to kill Him, for they feared the people.


“He was the burning and shining lamp, and for a while you wished to rejoice in his light.


His parents said this because they were afraid of the Yehuḏim, for the Yehuḏim had already agreed that if anyone confessed that He was Messiah, he should be put out of the congregation.


Then the captain went with the officers and brought them, not with force, for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned.
