He who lacks heart despises his neighbour, But a man of understanding keeps silence.


A clever man is concealing knowledge, But the heart of fools proclaims folly.


A trustworthy witness does not lie, But a false witness breathes out lies.


A man’s discretion makes him patient, And his adorning is to pass over a transgression.


He who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets; Therefore do not associate with him Who speaks smoothly with his lips.


Plead your case with your neighbour himself, And do not disclose the secret of another;


And all the heads came to Yirmeyahu and asked him. And he informed them according to all these words that the sovereign had commanded. And they said no more to him, for the matter was not heard.


‘Do not go slandering among your people. Do not stand against the blood of your neighbour. I am יהוה.


Moreover, they learn to be idle, going about from house to house, and not only idle but also gossips and busybodies, speaking what is improper.


And the men said to her, “Our lives for yours, if you do not expose this matter of ours, then it shall be, when יהוה  has given us the land, that we shall treat you in kindness and truth.”


“And if you expose this matter of ours, then we shall be released from your oath which you made us swear.”
