“And I, see, I am dwelling at Mitspah, to serve the Chaldeans who come to us. But you, gather wine and summer fruit and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities which you have taken.”


The prophets have prophesied falsely, and the priests rule by their own hand, and My people have loved it so. And what are you going to do at the end of it?


They have hunted our steps From going in our streets. Our end was near, Our days were completed, For our end had come.


“Therefore say to them, ‘Thus said the Master יהוה, “I shall make this proverb to cease, so that they no longer use it as a proverb in Yisra’ĕ


‘Therefore thus said the Master יהוה, “See, I am bringing a sword upon you and shall cut off from you man and beast.


And He said to me, “Son of man, receive into your heart all My words that I speak to you, and hear with your ears.


“But the house of Yisra’ĕ


‘An end has come, the end has come! It has awakened against you, look, it has come!


And He said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Yisra’ĕ


And He said to me, “Have you seen, O son of man? Is it a small matter to the house of Yehuḏ


And He said to me, “Son of man, do you see what they are doing, the great abominations which the house of Yisra’ĕ


The days of punishment have come, the days of retribution have come. Yisra’ĕ


and יהוה  said to me, “Amos, what do you see?” And I said, “A plumb-line.” And יהוה  said, “See, I am setting a plumb-line in the midst of My people Yisra’ĕ


This is what the Master יהוה  showed me, and see, a basket of summer fruit.


Woe to me! For I am as gatherings of summer fruit, as gleanings of the grape harvest. There is no cluster to eat. My being has desired the first-ripe fruit.


And he said to me, “What do you see?” And I answered, “I see a flying scroll, twenty cubits long and ten cubits wide.”
