And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.


Yet they said unto God, Depart from us; For we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.


The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: But the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.


O LORD, why dost thou make us to err from thy ways, and hardenest our heart from thy fear? Return for thy servants' sake, the tribes of thine inheritance.


Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Even so have they loved to wander; they have not refrained their feet: therefore the LORD doth not accept them; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.


Thine habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith the LORD.


And the LORD'S anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander to and fro in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed.


And for about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness.


This man led them forth, having wrought wonders and signs in Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years.


And even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up unto a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting;


And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, in whom ye were sealed unto the day of redemption.


And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spake unto the children of Israel, according unto all that the LORD had given him in commandment unto them;


And with whom was he displeased forty years? was it not with them that sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
