Now about that time Herod the king put forth his hands to afflict certain of the church.


My covenant will I not break, Nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.


If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause was mine adversary:)


And they have rewarded me evil for good, And hatred for my love.


I counsel thee, Keep the king's command, and that in regard of the oath of God.


But thou hast cast off and rejected, Thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.


My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, And my covenant shall stand fast with him.

And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, The men of Jabesh-gilead were they that buried Saul.


Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered thee today into mine hand in the cave: and some bade me kill thee: but mine eye spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he is the LORD'S anointed.


And the king said unto the guard that stood about him, Turn, and slay the priests of the LORD; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew that he fled, and did not disclose it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of the LORD.


Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the LORD, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law or after the commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;


All mine enemies shall be ashamed and sore vexed: They shall turn back, they shall be ashamed suddenly.


Thy throne is established of old: Thou art from everlasting.


O LORD, do not thine eyes look upon truth? thou hast stricken them, but they were not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.
