And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O LORD, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.


And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the LORD had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.


And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home, unto his city, and set his house in order, and hanged himself; and he died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.


And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said unto him, Have we made thee of the king's counsel? forbear; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.


So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath pacified.


Break thou the arm of the wicked; And as for the evil man, seek out his wickedness till thou find none.


Because they rebelled against the words of God, And contemned the counsel of the Most High:


Arise, O LORD, Confront him, cast him down: Deliver my soul from the wicked by thy sword;


Let the lying lips be dumb; Which speak against the righteous insolently, With pride and contempt.

Let them be ashamed and consumed that are adversaries to my soul; Let them be covered with reproach and dishonour that seek my hurt.

Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth, for the LORD hath spoken: I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me.
