And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O LORD, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.


And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home, unto his city, and set his house in order, and hanged himself; and he died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.


Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let a gallows be made of fifty cubits high, and in the morning speak thou unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then go thou in merrily with the king unto the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made.


So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath pacified.


but when the matter came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he had devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head; and that he and his sons should he hanged on the gallows.


Thon hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to take it into thy hand: The helpless committeth himself unto thee; Thou hast been the helper of the fatherless.


The LORD preserveth all them that love him; But all the wicked will he destroy.


The LORD upholdeth the meek: He bringeth the wicked down to the ground.


With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; And with the perverse thou wilt shew thyself froward.


A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, Is God in his holy habitation.


The LORD will root up the house of the proud: But he will establish the border of the widow.


The way of the wicked is as darkness: They know not at what they stumble.


Leave thy fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let thy widows trust in me.


Asshur shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses: neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, Ye are our gods: for in thee the fatherless findeth mercy.


And I will come near to you to judgement; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers; and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.


For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He that taketh the wise in their craftiness:


and thou shalt rejoice before the LORD thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite that is within thy gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are in the midst of thee, in the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there.


Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
