He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: But he that hath mercy on the needy honoureth him.


He that oppresseth the poor to increase his gain, And he that giveth to the rich, cometh only to want.


As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; So is a wicked ruler over a poor people.


what mean ye that ye crush my people, and grind the face of the poor? saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts.


The instruments also of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the meek with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right.


For among my people are found wicked men: they watch, as fowlers lie in wait; they set a trap, they catch men.


He is unto me as a bear lying in wait, as a lion in secret places.


The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery; yea, they have vexed the poor and needy, and have oppressed the stranger wrongfully.


Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing?


The godly man is perished out of the earth, and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net.


He taketh up all of them with the angle, he catcheth them in his net, and gathereth them in his drag: therefore he rejoiceth and is glad.


Thou didst pierce with his own staves the head of his warriors: They came as a whirlwind to scatter me: Their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly.

He that is a hireling, and not a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, beholdeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth, and the wolf snatcheth them, and scattereth them:


Do not thou therefore yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves under a curse, neither to eat nor to drink till they have slain him: and now are they ready, looking for the promise from thee.
