In the days of Pekah king of Israel came Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, and took Ijon, and Abel-beth-maacah, and Janoah, and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Gilead, and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali; and he carried them captive to Assyria.


For Pekah the son of Remaliah slew in Judah an hundred and twenty thousand in one day, all of them valiant men; because they had forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers.


Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? Who hath complaining? who hath wounds without cause? Who hath redness of eyes?


But these also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are gone astray; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are gone astray through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgement.


Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that tarry late into the night, till wine inflame them!


Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:


For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father, and, My mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be carried away before the king of Assyria.


Therefore the LORD shall set up on high against him the adversaries of Rezin, and shall stir up his enemies;


The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.


And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in pride and in stoutness of heart,


Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the understanding.


And the pride of Israel doth testify to his face: therefore Israel and Ephraim shall stumble in their iniquity; Judah also shall stumble with them.


Ephraim shall become a desolation in the day of rebuke: among the tribes of Israel have I made known that which shall surely be.


In the house of Israel I have seen an horrible thing: there whoredom is found in Ephraim, Israel is defiled.


On the day of our king the princes made themselves sick with the heat of wine; he stretched out his hand with scorners.


And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:


But ye gave the Nazirites wine to drink; and commanded the prophets, saying, Prophesy not.


and they lay themselves down beside every altar upon clothes taken in pledge, and in the house of their God they drink the wine of such as have been fined.


Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say unto their lords, Bring, and let us drink.


Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and to them that are secure in the mountain of Samaria, the notable men of the chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come!


that lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;


that drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments; but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.


The Lord GODhath sworn by himself, saith the LORD, the God of hosts; I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.
