And Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said unto Ezra, We have trespassed against our God, and have married strange women of the peoples of the land: yet now there is hope for Israel concerning this thing.


Then arose Ezra, and made the chiefs of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they would do according to this word. So they sware.


And he led them safely, so that they feared not: But the sea overwhelmed their enemies.


Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God be with thee: be thou for the people to God-ward, and bring thou the causes unto God:


If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people also shall go to their place in peace.


And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.


That the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; And that the man of understanding may attain unto sound counsels:


And the eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of thee: or again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.


And I spake unto you at that time, saying, I am not able to bear you myself alone:
