Howbeit I will not rend away all the kingdom; but I will give one tribe to thy son, for David my servant's sake, and for Jerusalem's sake which I have chosen.


My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, And my covenant shall stand fast with him.


If they break my statutes, And keep not my commandments;


But my mercy will I not utterly take from him, Nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.


My covenant will I not break, Nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.


Lord, where are thy former mercies, Which thou swarest unto David in thy faithfulness?


For I will defend this city to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.


Incline your ear, and come unto me; hear, and your soul shall live: and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.


Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with judgement and with righteousness from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts shall perform this.


For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.


And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.


And Samuel said unto him, The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, that is better than thou.


Now the spirit of the LORD had departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.


And he also stripped off his clothes, and he also prophesied before Samuel, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, Is Saul also among the prophets?
