Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.


and being in readiness to avenge all disobedience, when your obedience shall be fulfilled.


And I wrote this very thing, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.


For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be made sorry, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.


Wherefore I beseech you to confirm your love toward him.


how that in much proof of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.


Shew ye therefore unto them in the face of the churches the proof of your love, and of our glorying on your behalf.


thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or unto that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.


who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not; that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end:


And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God hath led thee these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble thee, to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.


So then, my beloved, even as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;


But ye know the proof of him, that, as a child serveth a father, so he served with me in furtherance of the gospel.


And if any man obeyeth not our word by this epistle, note that man, that ye have no company with him, to the end that he may be ashamed.


Having confidence in thine obedience I write unto thee, knowing that thou wilt do even beyond what I say.
