So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; It taketh away the life of the owners thereof.


He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house: But he that hateth gifts shall live.


Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.


Woe to the crown of pride of the drunkards of Ephraim, and to the fading flower of his glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley of them that are overcome with wine!


But these also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are gone astray; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are gone astray through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgement.


For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.


Therefore will I give their wives unto others, and their fields to them that shall possess them: for every one from the least even unto the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.


Neither shall any priest drink wine, when they enter into the inner court.


Drink no wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tent of meeting, that ye die not: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations:


If a man walking in wind and falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.


The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money: yet will they lean upon the LORD, and say, Is not the LORD in the midst of us? no evil shall come upon us.


Thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that make my people to err; that bite with their teeth and cry, Peace; and whoso putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him:


Oh that there were one among you that would shut the doors, that ye might not kindle fire on mine altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.


and he saith unto them, It is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer: but ye make it a den of robbers.


I coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel.


For they that are such serve not our Lord Christ, but their own belly; and by their smooth and fair speech they beguile the hearts of the innocent.


And be not drunken with wine, wherein is riot, but be filled with the Spirit;


And we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, encourage the fainthearted, support the weak, be longsuffering toward all.


Deacons in like manner must be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;


For men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, railers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,


whose mouths must be stopped; men who overthrow whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.


For the bishop must be blameless, as God's steward; not selfwilled, not soon angry, no brawler, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre;


that aged women likewise be reverent in demeanour, not slanderers nor enslaved to much wine, teachers of that which is good;


to speak evil of no man, not to be contentious, to be gentle, shewing all meekness toward all men.


Be ye free from the love of money; content with such things as ye have: for himself hath said, I will in no wise fail thee, neither will I in any wise forsake thee.


Whence come wars and whence come fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your pleasures that war in your members?


Tend the flock of God which is among you, exercising the oversight, not of constraint, but willingly, according unto God; nor yet for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;


And in covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose sentence now from of old lingereth not, and their destruction slumbereth not.


Woe unto them! for they went in the way of Cain, and ran riotously in the error of Balaam for hire, and perished in the gainsaying of Korah.


I John, your brother and partaker with you in the tribulation and kingdom and patience which are in Jesus, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.


And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgement.
