Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent beguiled me, and I ate.”


He feeds on ashes; a deluded mind has led him astray, and he cannot deliver himself or say, “Is there not a lie in my right hand?”


The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately corrupt; who can understand it?


The horror you inspire has deceived you, and the pride of your heart, you who live in the clefts of the rock, who hold the height of the hill. Though you make your nest as high as the eagle's, I will bring you down from there, says the Lord.


The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rock, whose dwelling is high, who say in your heart, “Who will bring me down to the ground?”


For no human being will be justified in his sight by works of the law, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.


Did that which is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, working death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure.


But sin, finding opportunity in the commandment, wrought in me all kinds of covetousness. Apart from the law sin lies dead.


Put off your old nature which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful lusts,


But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.


But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.


If any one thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this man's religion is vain.
