He has walled up my way, so that I cannot pass, and he has set darkness upon my paths.


They abhor me, they keep aloof from me; they do not hesitate to spit at the sight of me.


I look to the right and watch, but there is none who takes notice of me; no refuge remains to me, no man cares for me.


Therefore my spirit faints within me; my heart within me is appalled.


I am the scorn of all my adversaries, a horror to my neighbors, an object of dread to my acquaintances; those who see me in the street flee from me.


By day the Lord commands his steadfast love; and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.


Thou hast caused lover and friend to shun me; my companions are in darkness.


Thus says the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel and his Holy One, to one deeply despised, abhorred by the nations, the servant of rulers: “Kings shall see and arise; princes, and they shall prostrate themselves; because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”
