“Can you hunt the prey for the lion, or satisfy the appetite of the young lions,


Who provides for the raven its prey, when its young ones cry to God, and wander about for lack of food?


The eyes of all look to thee, and thou givest them their food in due season.


He gives to the beasts their food, and to the young ravens which cry.


The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.


For thus the Lord said to me, As a lion or a young lion growls over his prey, and when a band of shepherds is called forth against him is not terrified by their shouting or daunted at their noise, so the Lord of hosts will come down to fight upon Mount Zion and upon its hill.


How the beasts groan! The herds of cattle are perplexed because there is no pasture for them; even the flocks of sheep are dismayed.


Even the wild beasts cry to thee because the water brooks are dried up, and fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.


Fear not, you beasts of the field, for the pastures of the wilderness are green; the tree bears its fruit, the fig tree and vine give their full yield.


Does a lion roar in the forest, when he has no prey? Does a young lion cry out from his den, if he has taken nothing?
