“If I have made gold my trust, or called fine gold my confidence;


They open wide their mouths against me; they say, “Aha, Aha! our eyes have seen it!”


Though, while he lives, he counts himself happy, and though a man gets praise when he does well for himself,


men who trust in their wealth and boast of the abundance of their riches?


Thou destroyest those who speak lies; the Lord abhors bloodthirsty and deceitful men.


Why do you boast, O mighty man, of mischief done against the godly? All the day


They pour out their arrogant words, they boast, all the evildoers.


The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil, my desire shall have its fill of them. I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.’


Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law strive against them.


In my vain life I have seen everything; there is a righteous man who perishes in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man who prolongs his life in his evil-doing.


“ ‘Whom have you mocked and reviled? Against whom have you raised your voice and haughtily lifted your eyes? Against the Holy One of Israel!


Because of the iniquity of his covetousness I was angry, I smote him, I hid my face and was angry; but he went on backsliding in the way of his own heart.


But you have eyes and heart only for your dishonest gain, for shedding innocent blood, and for practicing oppression and violence.”


And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your incense altars, and cast your dead bodies upon the dead bodies of your idols; and my soul will abhor you.


Woe to him who gets evil gain for his house, to set his nest on high, to be safe from the reach of harm!


And he said to them, “Take heed, and beware of all covetousness; for a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”


And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.’


They were filled with all manner of wickedness, evil, covetousness, malice. Full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity, they are gossips,


Though they know God's decree that those who do such things deserve to die, they not only do them but approve those who practice them.


nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God.


Be sure of this, that no fornicator or impure man, or one who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.


one who, when he hears the words of this sworn covenant, blesses himself in his heart, saying, ‘I shall be safe, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart.’ This would lead to the sweeping away of moist and dry alike.


“The Lord saw it, and spurned them, because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.


Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.


Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and get gain”;


As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.


Do not love the world or the things in the world. If any one loves the world, love for the Father is not in him.


And he said to his mother, “The eleven hundred pieces of silver which were taken from you, about which you uttered a curse, and also spoke it in my ears, behold, the silver is with me; I took it.” And his mother said, “Blessed be my son by the Lord.”


And Saul said, “May you be blessed by the Lord; for you have had compassion on me.
